Is this really homework?

So, I have a 6 yr old that's in Kindergarten this school year... but, I don't like this system his teacher has for homework. Where are the practice letters in the alphabet? Where are the number practices? Where are the sight words practices? Where is the reading everyday for 20 minutes with your child spot? I think his EAK teacher had better homework... he got a packet of what he needed to practice for that week on a Monday and that homework packet was turned in every Friday morning in EAK.

In Kindergarten this year, we got this one paper (double sided)... in one side has some things we can pick and do them and just marked them down as "homework"... looks like a September calendar. We have to turn in this "homework/paper" the last school day of September. I mean, come on!!... "helping make the table before dinner" I don't consider homework type. "Writing only his name" I don't consider homework. I might buy a Kindergarten workbook at Costco and work with him instead. This is frustrating because I can't see him learning important stuff at home with his homework or practicing what he's learning in class. Then, on the other side are four questions... two to ask the child which activity did he enjoyed and why. And, two for the parent to tell which activity the child needed the most help and which one did the child enjoyed the most.

I must add that even my 9 yr old when he was in Kindergarten (same school but different teacher) had REAL and better homework than this. I don't know if this homework system is going to change or stay the same through out the school year. Tomorrow (9/23) is Back to School Night for Kindergarten so I'll see what his teacher has to say. I'm wondering if other parents are in the same boat as I am.
